PKR.com hold some great ladies only online poker tourneys. Now, although I am aware that this could be a slightly thorny issue, I feel that I have to be honest about my feelings towards "ladies only events". I know that the WSOP holds such events and the WPT does also. I think the first point I should clarify is that I think it’s great that ladies are enjoying playing poker, and its great to see them playing in major tournaments worldwide in which they can be just as successful as their male counterparts.

What I cannot understand then, is why they have a special event that only female players can play in. I mean, if there were a "mens only event" there would of course be uproar about it, and rightly so.
If we are looking at a sport such as Tennis for example, the need for a females only tournament is obvious due to men having a superior physical strength and as such having an advantage, but in a game such as poker this seems ridculous.
If there are women poker players out there who do not feel they are capable of playing with the best male players in the world and winning, then they simply shouldn’t bother turning up. Instead however, they enter a tournament made up especially for them, and it is presented as an event to determine the best players in the world. That sounds a bit hollow when half the population isn’t allowed to enter. www.pkr.com
When you consider that neither gender has any natural advantage in a game such as poker, this creating of a separate event for women basically seems to say, "we can’t play with the men and win, so we’ll make our own tournament so we have a chance of winning a bracelet". Poker is a battle of the mind, and as we all know womens minds are just as strong as mens, for that reason, there is no justification at all for a ladies only event.
Any pkr.com tournament that goes under the name of the World Series, should be about seperating the very good players from the best players in the world, in every event, and that should be regardless of gender.
